UASB reactor and its pretreatment units

The anaerobic treatment is very popular in developing countries and the adoption of UASB reactors are a feasible alternative for wastewater treatment. One point of concern are its pretreatment units (screening and sand removal). This video shows a pretreatment unit located upstream a UASB reators where it is possible to observe a large quantity of debris in its surface. Because this is an oldfashioned design the screens are composed by coarse screens with large openings and as a consequence great part of the debris are not removed and goes to the UASB reactors. In nowadays the pretreatment for UASB reators is usually designed by fine screens with openings with less than 6 mm.
