Total Solar Eclipse - Exmouth Western Australia - April 2023

First video for my 'travel' channel. This is a slight re-cut of the video I posted on my Astrophotography channel, mainly to get the Give Me Space - Travel Channel started. I thought with the upcoming total solar eclipse in April, 2024 in the USA people might be interested in seeing an experience with a different eclipse in a different location. For this Exmouth eclipse totality was very short and the area of totality was very small. This was due to the moon being at a distance where the apparent diameter was only just large enough to cover the sun. The downside was that the sky did not totally darken but darken it did and the temperature dropped noticeably. The upside was that you could see solar prominences quite clearly. I was surprised to see that their natural colour is an eerie 'hydrogen red', not white. If you are going to watch the USA eclipse and this is your first time, my advice is to make sure you don't get too wrapped up in taking photos. It's harder than you think and other more experienced people will have better ones you can buy. Even getting the correct focus is not as easy as setting the camera to infinity. Make sure you see totality with your own eyes. It is literally mind-blowing as your brain tries to make sense of what is happening. It is literally awe inspiring. At totality the moon looks like a hole in the sky into utter blackness while to solar corona surrounding it is the purest silver-white light, like a gift from Galadriel.
