ASU 31st Biennial General Conference Concludes at Historic Khonoma Village with Strong Messages on Leadership, Economy, and Environment Khonoma, April 6, 2025 — The 31st Biennial General Conference of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) officially concluded today at the historic village of Khonoma, bringing together students from 83 Angami villages, along with leaders, elders, and well-wishers from across the region. Medo Yhokha, former ASU President, former MLA, and Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, graced the event as the Special Guest. Reflecting on his journey with ASU since 2005, Yhokha credited the organization as a cornerstone in his leadership development. He encouraged the youth to stay rooted in their culture, value discipline, and strive for both academic and personal excellence. “Today, education and infrastructure are at our doorstep. Without qualification, we cannot move forward. Complacency must be replaced by a strong work ethic and a change in outlook,” he said. On the economic front, Yhokha expressed concern over Kohima’s dependence on salaries and house rents, urging youth to venture into entrepreneurship. “We often talk about outsiders controlling our economy, but who is to be blamed? It’s time to take responsibility and start creating change,” he challenged. Using the phrase “ara kezevi”, Yhokha stressed the importance of protecting land and natural resources, warning against unchecked development and environmental degradation. He also addressed the upcoming Zubza railway line, highlighting its potential benefits as well as ecological concerns, and urged a well-prepared, balanced response. Yhokha concluded with a call to remain spiritually grounded, saying, “Stay connected with God. That’s the foundation of strong leadership.” Kezhazer Angami announced the new ASU team for the 2025–2027 tenure, with Diezevisie Nakhro as the newly elected President. The valedictory session was moderated by Vizosienuo Shüya, Secretary of Women Affairs, ASU. Pelevisie Vüprü, Pastor of the Living God Ministry Prayer Center, Khonoma, invoked blessings for ASU and the youth’s journey ahead. A special song by Kethonuo Sekhose added an emotional tone to the program. Zhasakholie Kehie, Speaker of ASU, delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the memorable conference to a close. #ASU2025 #AngamiStudentsUnion #KhonomaVillage #LeadershipMatters #NagaYouth #YouthEmpowerment #ZubzaRailway #PreserveNature #NagalandEducation #StudentMovement #Entrepreneurship #AraKezevi #UnityAndGrowth #AngamiPride @nagalandtoday
