It warms my heart to think that soon, young Neville Longbottom will learn that he is extremely talented at Herbology. The Hogwarts greenhouses are where Herbology classes are taught at Hogwarts. Herbology is the study of magical and mundane plants and fungi, making it the wizarding equivalent to botany. Herbology is a core class in which students learn to care for and utilize plants, learn about their magical properties and what they are used for. Many plants provided ingredients for potions and medicine, while others had magical effects of their own right. Prof. Pomona Sprout was Head of Hufflepuff House and Head of the Herbology department at Hogwarts, and of course, the beloved Herbology teacher. I do love her no-nonsense approach to teaching and her earmuffs! The greenhouses have statues of long, serpentine dragon statues running along the peaked roofs. They are home to many exotic and magical plants including some that are extremely rare, difficult to cultivate and maintain, or even dangerous, such as Mandrakes, Venomous Tentacula or Snargaluffs. Dear traveler, welcome back to school! It's that time of year again to pick up some books and in this case, try not to get strangled by some plants..! But all jokes aside, the Hogwarts Greenhouse is such a soothing, comforting and magical place.
