India Gives 30-Day Warning to Deport Illegal Bangladeshis | ISH News

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given all Indian States and Union Territories 30 days to check the identity papers of people suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. People who cannot prove their identity or do not have valid documents may be sent back to their home countries. Every district has been asked to form a team and set up special holding centres where these people will stay while their documents are verified. Some states have already started this work. In Odisha, officials are checking undocumented workers, especially among street vendors and fishermen. Detention centres are also being set up. In Meghalaya, the government is looking for illegal immigrants, especially Bangladeshis and Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar. This move comes after a major scam was discovered by Delhi Police, where Bangladeshi nationals were staying in India using fake documents with help from a gang. As per reports, nearly 1.5 crore (15 million) Bangladeshis and around 40,000 Rohingyas may be living in India without valid papers or refugee status. With growing border tensions, the Indian government is now being extra careful. Officials have also been told to stop illegal immigrants from getting documents like Aadhaar or voter ID cards. The MHA says this step is important for national security and to make sure that only genuine citizens get government benefits.
