In this presentation from the RSMj Conference in July 2025, Dr. Amanda Doggett discusses her work analyzing the longitudinal data from the PathCann Cohort Study. Dr. Doggett explores how Canadian attitudes and perceptions toward cannabis have evolved since its legalization in 2018, highlighting key findings from 11 time points between 2018 and 2023. Three areas of focus include: 1) Social acceptability of recreational and medical cannabis use 2) Perceptions of cannabis safety, including addictiveness and health risks 3) Behavioral trends and how they differ between pre-legalization users and non-users Some key insights are: There was a rise in social acceptability of recreational cannabis use There was a decline in perceived safety, with more people viewing cannabis as addictive and risky There was an unexpected decline in acceptability of medical cannabis There were differences in opinion shifts between cannabis users and non-users before legalization The study also compares Canadian trends with U.S. data and discusses the role of public health messaging, which has declined over the same period. --- The Michael G.
