Imitation Decorative Stones, Imitation Bricks, Pink Foamboard Insulation, Sanded Grout, Dense Foam, Front Porch, Art, Substrate. This video illustrates how I replaced an old rotten planter at the front of the house with imitation stones made with Pink Foamboard Insulation and layers of sanded grout on top. The total cost of the project was about $200 (my labor was free). The imitation stones look very similar to the REAL STONES at the front corners of the house. I had previously done a waterfall (has lasted 2 winters and counting) and a fairytale backyard bridge. The sanded grout is waterproof and seems to weather well. I wouldn't shoot a golf ball at them though; it would go right through. I estimate the entire assembly weighs less than 30 lbs; the grout is only a thin layer a couple of mm thick. I got the idea from a large boulder in my neighborhood that is hollow, a thin layer of cement over chicken wire; you cannot tell the boulder is not real.
