Just 40 minutes from our home town, but we hadn't visited Lyveden before - an abandoned Elizabethan building project, it's a unique place to visit, with a beautiful orchard and labyrinth to explore, too. Calm and peaceful, Lyveden is open to the elements, so we recommend avoiding rainy days! That said, there's a lovely café to retreat to, and a common room with a small library of books. During school holidays (starting 24 July 2023 this summer), Lyveden hosts a number of activities for families. We visited on a quiet Monday before the majority of schools closed for the holidays, so only a small (and excellent) art exhibit by students of Tresham College was open - it was a lovely and relaxing day as we almost had the place to ourselves. When travelling to and from Lyveden, once you're off the main road, the lanes into the area are very pot-holey and bumpy, and narrow in places so please take care when driving, and watch out for farm vehicles, too.
