Have you ever strained your upper hamstrings? Well I just did a few days ago! I wanted to share with you the techniques I used today to loosen my tight and painful upper hamstrings prior to my back workout. I start by generating blood flow into the hamstrings muscles using a hand held roller. I followed this by performing cross friction massage over the upper hamstrings using a spikey massage ball. Next, I performed as many of my regular stretches that I could perform without directly stretching my actual hamstrings on the injured side. DO NOT directly stretch the injured hamstrings. Finally, make sure you stretch the hip flexor muscles. Tight hip flexors can aggravate your upper hamstrings strain. Give these high hamstrings strain treatment techniques a try next time you have a similar injury. After you do, let me know your thoughts. Did it feel awesome?
