I must admit, I'm not a big fan of this game. PC version was always much more important to me even with all its flaws. But I still like to play through the PS1 HP1 game every now and then. Especially around Christmas. This game always felt weird for me. Harry learns flipendo without any lessons, Harry gets house points for pretty much every random action, secrets are also very weird. Slippery floor sections and some mini-games felt out of pace too. I like that this game has lots of book moments that weren't in the movie or PC game. Also it doesn't look that bad, when you play it with DuckStation enhancements like I did here. Without this awful PS1 geometry distortion it looks nice! But another issue I have with this game is its framerate... Sometimes it becomes a literal slideshow, especially during Quidditch, but also in many other random moments where there's nothing that should make the game show a bad performance. For example, Gryffindor common room. I can see why Great Hall ruins fps, there's a lot of different flying candles, but other than that... Initially I thought it was because of DuckStation enhancements and yes, it makes things worse a bit. But only a bit. The game isn't that good in terms of performance overall. I checked lots of other videos recorded on different PCs and emulators, even speedrunning videos have these performance issues in the game. So looks like it's just bad coding. I tried ePSXe myself, but DuckStation is better. I don't know, Spyro games run absolutely flawlessly. Lots of other PS1 games too. But this HP game is... Let's say it makes things a bit frustrating. Also I never 100%-ed the game before. Of course for the most part because of the Gringotts mini-games... I spent more, than 1 hour to master all three of them in this playthrough. It was awful... Maybe I'm just bad at this game, but honestly, do any of you wanted to play so many weird mini-games in an action-adventure platformer about a young wizard? And if you make a mistake - you can't just restart manually through pause menu - you must wait through the whole part to play it again. Awful experience. I almost cracked and used savestates, but I'm glad I didn't. And it's weird, that there's not that much music. Unlike PC game, it's often silent here during the normal gameplay. Hogwarts in the game is pretty boring too. Most of its doors and passages are used at some points of the story or never at all, which lefts only a couple corridors that aren't story related. But anyway, it's still better, than PC version, where Hogwarts was different every time. There's at least some consistency in this version. Anyway, in this episode we basically start the game, become familiar with the basic movement/spellcasting and also finish our first broomstick practice. 0:00 - Menu and logos 1:07 - Intro cutscene 2:51 - The game begins 4:29 - There are 4 portraits in the game To get into them you need to collect beans. It's not that hard, there's more beans, than needed. Also most of the portraits have some upgrades. Flipendo upgrade was cool, but two others are for Quidditch. Also one portrait has a card, which is pretty boring. 5:40 - A secret with a card All secrets in the game are just such walls or bookshelves that you can just push and get inside. Sometimes there are just rooms with goods, but most of the time it's just mini-games with a card reward for a completion. I would be fine if these mini-games were different, but most of them are repeated for 3 times in a row with difficulty increasing... 8:17 - It's cool, but... These notes on the board don't change. So if you was in Gryffindor common room once - you have nothing to do here anymore. The Daily Prophet doesn't change as well, even though the game story takes a year... And yeah, I warned you that framerate just dies in GCR. 11:55 - Yeah, autojump... Why? In PC game you could at least enable and disable it whenever you want. It's not like PS1 controller was short on buttons... 14:50 - What is it for? 15:49 - I liked PC snails more... Also on some prerelease screenshots these snails were even in the forbidden forest. Looks like they could be used more often. 18:00 - I didn't record it, but these rats are funny. They dance if stay idle... Watch them when you play the game next time. 24:21 - Broomstick training Broom controls and physics aren't that bad in this game. I even somehow managed to complete the training... ------------------------------- Walkthrough playlist: • [100%] Harry Potter and the Philosopher's ... Played on PC using DuckStation emulator.
