Hey everyone, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today on our 2024 Ford Maverick, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Roadmaster Towed Vehicle Battery Charge Line Kit. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, we'll check this out and talk about what it's gonna do. What this is going to accomplish is it's going to keep your Maverick's battery topped off and charged whenever you're flat towing your vehicle down the road. And that's a necessary thing that Ford recommends doing. And if I had to guess, that's probably because the Maverick does use quite a bit of electrical systems, right Has electric assisted brakes, electric assisted steering, so on and so forth. And so, you know, by keeping the proper voltage and the battery topped off, those components are gonna be able to work correctly because when you are towing, you know, not only are those using electricity, but your supplemental braking system as well. So every time that you hit the brakes in the coach and your braking system activates, that will take a little bit of juice from your battery. And so this will also help prevent, you know, having a dead battery when you get to your campsite or your destination, right You go to unhook, not gonna have to worry about the Maverick being dead. The way the kit works is pretty simple. You got power that comes from the motor home and then it goes across a breaker just to help keep the circuit protected. You know, if a short or something like that we inchesre to happen, the breaker would trip and kill power and then the other wire goes to your power post here, which is connected to the battery. So that's how it's going to actually charge it while you're flat towing. The other end of the charge line is hooked up to the back of your six-way type connector like this one here. So you will need this style to make this work, but this is extremely common. The vast majority of the people, you know, setting their flat tows up have this style to begin with. So that's good news there. And then of course electricity is gonna flow through this wire and it's gonna come from the seven way on your motor home. So on these seven ways, there's a 12 volt auxiliary power that this gets power from to charge a battery and you're not gonna hurt the motor home or drain its batteries by using it. It's you know, back here to be able to use something like this. And the coach has its own charging system, you know, the alternator, so its batteries are constantly charging when it's driving. Pretty much all of the coaches should have that seven way and a functional 12 volt auxiliary outlet. If you're not sure of that, you can always pick up a little tester and you can plug it in, it'll light up and tell you what signals you got and everything. And honestly it's a pretty inexpensive tool just to have on hand anyway, you know, when you're over the road and stuff, if you come to find out that you don't have auxiliary power back here, maybe you got an older coach or one of the oddballs that just kind of don't have it there, Roadmaster does make a kit for the motor home side that you could install and get that power to your seven way. Other than that, when it comes on to it, not really a reason to not use something like this, you know, not only does Ford highly recommend it, using something like this, but it's kind of cheap insurance anyway just to make sure your battery don't go dead once you get to where you're going and you're done flat towing, right As far as the installation goes, really not too bad. You run a wire to the six way on up the breaker, hook 'em up, go to the power post. Now how I set it up, I did have to use an additional nut to be able to attach our ring terminal down to the post and I'll tell you what I used exactly during the install so hopefully I can help you out. So if you're gonna do this yourself, hang around, we'll go ahead, pull into the garage and get started on it now. To begin our installation for our battery charge line kit, gonna be working underneath the hood over here on the driver's side. And the first thing that you wanna do is take the wire that they give you. We're gonna drop that straight down, that way we can run it to the front of our vehicle. Here's that wire comes down and I
