On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy launched a surprise military attack on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The attack began at 7:48 a.m. and was carried out by more than 350 Japanese aircraft in two waves. The primary targets were battleships, airfields, and military installations. Eight U.S. battleships were damaged, four of them sunk. Nearly 200 American aircraft were destroyed. More than 2,400 Americans were killed and over 1,100 were wounded. The following day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed Congress, calling December 7 “a date which will live in infamy.” The United States formally declared war on Japan, officially entering World War II. The attack significantly shifted the course of global history and led to full American involvement in the war. Lyrics: December 7th, 1941. Two thousand four hundred and three dead. One thousand one hundred and seventy-eight wounded. Battleships burning in the harbor. Men trapped below decks. A morning that changed the world. This was not just an attack. This was a wound carved into history. Sunday morning, calm and bright No warning in the light Engines humming in the sky Death descending from on high Torpedoes cut the silent bay Steel and fire pave the way Arizona in a blaze Hell unleashed in minutes' haze Smoke rising, sirens cry Brothers falling side by side From the ashes, from the flame A sleeping giant wakes in pain December fire in the sky Remember Pearl, we will not die From the harbor’s burning grave Rises vengeance, strong and brave Hear the thunder, drums of war We remember what they’re fighting for Through the smoke and ocean’s roar Pearl Harbor forevermore "REMEMBER! REMEMBER!" Battleships torn apart Shrapnel raining on the heart Dive bombers screaming down Turning peace to shattered ground In the oil-black sea they stood Fighting back as soldiers should Through the fire and twisted steel Swore an oath the world would feel No surrender, no retreat Rage and grief in every beat From the wreckage, from the flame History would never be the same December fire in the sky Hear the wounded battle cry From the harbor’s burning grave Rises justice none can save Strike like thunder, oceans wide Honor those who fought and died Through the storm and cannon’s roar Pearl Harbor forevermore Names carved deep in memory Echo through eternity A nation scarred, a nation sworn From the night a war was born December fire in the sky We remember, we reply From the harbor’s burning grave Rose a fury none could brave Drums of freedom, hearts of steel Time can never make it heal Through the smoke and ocean’s roar Pearl Harbor forevermore December 7th, 1941. A date which will live in infamy.
