Norfolk Southern’s former Reading Lurgan Branch hosts a plethora of different trains, most of which operate during the daylight hours and, if you happen to be out at the right time, with some pretty uniques locomotive consists. This video, shot between March and June, 2015, showcases a number of different trains that ply the Lurgan. First off, 37Q heads westbound with a pair of SD80MACs leading a short train. The snow and another train in emergency kept him from departing Harrisburg. Later on, after the snow had stopped, an extremely late 212 heads eastbound across the Yellow Breeches Creek with a trio of standard cab EMDs. Since these units are not long for this world, there was no question about going out to see them, even if the lighting and weather conditions were not favorable. Fast forward a few weeks and the spring weather has arrived as Linwood to Allentown manifest 36Q passes a public park outside Grantham with some unique UP units. NS 6993 was the newest completed SD60E at the time it is seen here leading a train of export locomotives through Boiling Springs. All of these units are destined for shipment overseas to Mozambique. A quick pacing shot of 203 through Chambersburg with the PRR heritage unit trailing. Memphis to Harrisburg stack train 202 passes through the small park near Grantham again sporting three different models of GE units: a dash-9 wide cab, a dash-8 standard cab and the Conrail heritage ES44AC. Another unusual sight: SP 355 leads 213 west by Messiah College in the late evening. Enola to Linwood manifest 13R passes Mill Road in Grantham in a light spring rain shower with a former UP SD90MAC leading. Returning from events in Spencer, NC, NS 955 heads toward Harrisburg with an ES44DC, the Veterans unit, the Exhibit car and a center beam car. Literally fighting the last daylight left on an already cloudy day, 213 heads westbound my Messiah College with UP 2001 leading another UP and a CSX GE. Several days later, UP 2001 is seen again on the point of train 211, passing the old depot in Lemoyne. This was a combined 211 and 203 due to the Memorial Day holiday. CNJ heritage leads a pair of standard cab EMDs on Knoxville to Enola manifest 38Q passing Messiah College on a beautiful spring evening. A pair of dash-9s lead a train of military tanks westbound. These cars will be interchanged at the Letterkenny Army Depot between Chambersburg and Greencastle. Enjoy, subscribe and thanks for watching!!
