The interactive history museum shares the stories of Texas evolution and how Abilene came to be. The Grace Museum reveals the story of Abilene’s formation. Fun fact: The Grace used to be a hotel in the early years but now serves a history and art space with a wide range of immersive activities for families to explore. Across the street is Candies by Vletas, which once was the Railroad Agency building. What once held the luggage of passengers is now the home to some of the best homemade chocolate and chocolate clusters. At Vletas, everything is made fresh without any preservatives which is why it’s withstood the test of time. In celebration of the city’s past, every year the community comes together for the Western Heritage Classic. This three-day event honors the working ranches and cowboys of Texas by showcasing the livestock, goods, tools, and competitions we’d see on a farm.
