Another day of singing in the @DailyAntidoteofSong! It's day 2115, and for those of us in the United States, it's Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We are so blessed to be singing with our good friend Namvula (@NamvulaSings) who has brought us a really beautiful song called "Sign of the Times." She told us a little bit about the folk lore behind the song's story, and then we talked about the ways it connects to Dr. King's work and the state of the world right now. It was a really beautiful discussion and we are so inspired by what Namvula mentioned about gratitude and feeling like we "have enough." Thank you so much to our song Leader, and to everyone who joined us to sing and celebrate togetherness, unity, and understanding. As Jo said, "Stay steady," and we'll see you tomorrow. SIGN OF THE TIMES By the marine-blue sea, where the sand turns to ground There a man sowed his dreams, simple and proud Of a home, and a wife, and a child he could teach The map of the stars, and the wisdom of the winds So he tended his fields with love and with care Watched his dreams bear him fruit as years passed him by And he lived with wife in the house that he built With his own two hands out of wood and out of sand And he watched his boy grow in body and mind And he taught him all he knew of the sea and the sky And the fisherman thought to himself every night "how blessed am I in this humble life, how blessed am I in this humble life" Falalai Then one day walked by a man dressed in finest of silk Said he to the fisherman "look, I can bring you great wealth, I can bring you great joy, If you sell me your land, and you sell me your home" But the fisherman looked at this silver-tongued man With the devil in his eye and money in his hand, "I wouldn't sell all this joy for all the wealth in the land. Is it a sign of the times we're living in To ask me to sell off my soul for pieces of gold? It's a sign of the times we're living in Is it a sign of the times?"
