Concorde - The Legend: The story of the sensational supersonic airplane (Documentary, 2006)

The Concorde was a supersonic airliner that was jointly developed by Great Britain and France. It was the first civilian aircraft to regularly carry passengers at supersonic speed. With a speed of Mach 2 (around 2,180 km/h), the Concorde was twice as fast as conventional passenger aircraft and could carry up to 100 passengers. Its slim fuselage and delta wings made the Concorde aerodynamically efficient. It was operated by Air France and British Airways and was mainly used on transatlantic routes such as Paris-New York and London-New York. Its maiden flight took off in 1969, followed by regular operations in 1976. Concorde was seen as a symbol of technological progress and luxury. However, there were also economic challenges, including high operating costs, its limited passenger capacity and environmental concerns due to its sonic boom and fuel consumption. On July 25 2000, a tragic crash occurred at Gonesse near Paris. Air France flight AF 4590 was due to fly from Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle to New York, but ended in disaster just a few minutes after take-off, killing 113 people. Concorde was finally taken out of service in 2003.
