Festa di San Sebastiano – Uscita | Piazza del Duomo, Acireale, 20 gennaio 2018 The Festiival of Saint Sebastian was filmed on 20 January 2018 at the Piazza del Duomo in Acireale, Sicily. This annual religious festival has been held in Acireale for at least 447 years. There's a document from 11 September 1571 signed by the bishop Faraone approving these celebrations in Acireale, proving that the festival was already well established here. The cult of San Sebastiano was brought to Sicily around 1063 by the Lombards. It was believed that the Saint who escaped the martyrdom of the arrows would intercede and protect against the plague (depicted in medieval iconography by darts hurled by God against sinners).
