Khajuraho Temples, Madhya Pradesh: Famous for their nagar style architecture symbolism, Khajuraho Temples are a group of Hindu and Jain Temples which is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, in a small town known as Khajuraho. The name Khajuraho or Kharjuravahaka is derived from ancient Sanskrit as khajur means date palm and vahaka means the one who carries as the local legend states that the temple had two golden palm trees. The khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 during the rule of Rajput chandela dynasty. According to the historical notes, there were 85 temples till 12th century spreading over 20 kilometers but only 20 of them survived spreading over 6 kilometers. Of the surviving temples, Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures, symbolism and expressiveness of ancient Indian art. Also, khajuraho temples are one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in India.
