Hunger, executions, shelling, fires - these are the disasters that befell a village in Ukraine

The village of Maksymivka has faced a challenging fate since its founding in the late 18th century amidst unforgiving and harsh steppe landscapes. The village was never known for its great wealth or luxury. In the 1930s, nearly half of its population perished from famine, during the 1940s it was caught in the crossfire of the frontlines resulting in the execution of most of the local residents. In the 1970s, the village was deemed unpromising, and in the 1990s and 2000s, many residents left. In 2022, the village endured 8 months of frontline presence, which left it in ruins. One might have thought it couldn't get any worse, but in 2023, the village's fate was plagued by merciless steppe fires. The story of all these tragedies and curses upon this village in Mykolaiv Oblast will be discussed in the upcoming video project by Khashchi.
