Fires Along the Canals of New York

Fires from the mid/late 19th century into the mid-20th century that damaged local businesses and villages along the canal system in Central New York will be discussed by Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz at the Clinton Historical Society. Urtz will examine the cause of the fires and what happened to the industries in the aftermath. Areas will range from Oneida to Onondaga County to the east/west and Oswego County to Broome County the north/south. He will also highlight a few fires from his new book “Historic Fires of Madison County” that took place along the canal system.
