Using patented VCTE and CAP, FibroScan® is the first totally non-invasive device indicated for use as an aid in the clinical management of patients with liver disease. The examination with FibroScan is rapid and easily repeatable over time. This unique, accurate and efficient device brings extra confidence to patient management. FibroScan calculates liver stiffness using a patented technique called Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE). The controlled vibration creates shear waves. The shear wave speed is measured by an ultrasound signal, with higher speeds indicating stiffer liver tissue. The rate of attenuation for the ultrasound signal is measured simultaneously. This attenuation rate, known as CAP, can provide additional information about the health of the liver. Unlike radiation pressure techniques, which do not control the frequency of the shear waves, VCTE provides consistent, repeatable measurements. FibroScan® is a medical device manufactured by Echosens. FibroScan is a CE marked Medical Device within the scope of the Medical Devices Directive. FibroScan® is indicated for the non invasive measurement of liver stiffness (E) and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) in humans. It is expressly recommended to carefully read the guidance within the users' guide and the labeling of the device. FibroScan® examinations must only be performed at the request of qualified physician and by operators certified by the manufacturer or its accredited local representative. The values obtained with FibroScan® must be interpreted by a physician experienced in dealing with liver disease, taking into account the complete medical record of the patient.
