PISA 2025 Foreign Language Assessment with Dr Hanan Khalifa

The global competence survey (OECD, 2018) showed that students who speak more than one language are more aware of global issues, are interested in learning about cultures, willing to engage with different perspectives, and have greater cognitive adaptability. The survey results together with a continuous demand from OECD countries prompted the introduction of foreign language skills in PISA surveys. In this talk, I will familiarize the audience with key features of PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), introduce PISA framework for foreign language assessment, share the agreed definition of language proficiency, and provide a preview of a draft blueprint for the assessment.
