I love Hermes bracelets because they don’t pretend to be anything they’re not. Whereas Chanel costume jewellery is bits of plastic and glass masquerading as pearls and diamonds, Hermes fashion bracelets are leather, enamel and plated steel. Robust materials for a strong look. And they don’t break or lose bits off them all the time. Hermes bracelets are incredibly sturdy - although they do scratch! They also have a sense of humour - they don’t take themselves too seriously. The names tell you that. Clic Clac - an onomatopoeic name; Clic H and even the term for the CDC studs - Medor - in French is a familiar or generic term for a dog. Medor used in this context means ‘pooch’ or ‘Fido'. So the Collier du Chien bracelet (or dog collar) is adorned with Fido studs! I love that about the jewellery. It’s sort of tongue in cheek. They are also a way of experiencing the brand, the different leathers and colours used and the different kinds of hardware too, before you set your heart on or commit to the expense of a bag. But which style is best? All my bracelets are in neutral colours - in fact three are black; I love the bright jewel colours but I have a feeling I wouldn’t wear them as much. My wardrobe is mainly in neutrals and I don’t have any brightly coloured handbags for example, so I feel the neutral coloured bracelets work best for me. I don’t know why I am so attracted to neutral colours or what that says about me. But that’s the way it is! I’d love to hear what you think of the Hermes bracelets and which ones you have. Do you have one of the full size CDC bracelets. Is it easy to wear? How often do you reach for it? xx
