Last month, while in the UK, I made the trip down to Kent to spend the day with Malcolm Jarvis and his family. It was a great opportunity to sit down and capture the story of how BMX first started in Britain. In 1979, Malcolm flew to Los Angeles after hearing about BMX. He immersed himself in the scene, visiting BMX Plus! and BMX Action, meeting Bob Osborn, watching Bob Haro ride, and spending time at the Corona downhill and Azusa tracks with riders like Scott Breithaupt and Stu Thomsen. He came back to the UK inspired to build something from nothing. From there, Malcolm helped shape British BMX from the ground up, creating rule books, building tracks, organizing races, and pushing the sport into the spotlight, even onto television. He also developed one of the most influential teams in early UKBMX. In this clip, Malcolm talks about that first trip to the U.S., meeting Bob Haro, filming him riding, and visiting Mongoose, which led to working out a deal to distribute the brand in the UK, a key moment in the growth of British BMX. A great insight into how it all started. https://www.britishbmxhalloffame.com/
