🇨🇳✈️🇸🇬🍾🤷‍♂️China Eastern B777 First Class PVG – SIN, a peculiar experience I was excited to fly on my very first Chinese First class experience, on China Eastern's B777 First class from Shanghai to Singapore. It was a decent, if not peculiar experience, and felt more like “Business Plus”: Check in: there’s a dedicated First / Biz check in area (boarding pass also denotes “First”), and dedicated security screening lane BUT after the common immigration area with no express lane. Lounge: there’s no dedicated First class lounge, but I could use the “Platinum” rather than “Business / Gold / Silver” section – which has the same F&B, but with a manned bar with champagne and brews coffee Seats: the B777 features 1-2-1 layout suites with sliding doors, and the 2 centre suites can be combined to form a double bed. Its a slightly dated product, but still spacious and private. Crew, Meals, Amenities: the sole cabin crew serving First class was a gem - friendly and proactive and call bells answered in seconds. Alas everything else was like Business class – inflight menu and wines (no champagne) exactly the same, and no pyjamas or amenities kits provided save for a pair of slippers. There was no duvets for the bed as well. Cost: I booked this PVG – SIN First class flight for 40,500 KLM Flying Blue miles. Business class can be booked for 32,500 miles. So essentially, I paid 8,000 miles more for an upgraded seat, which is better than the reverse herringbone seats on the B777, but similar to the enclosed Biz suites with doors on their A350s which I flew on 2 years ago. Comparison with SQ: in contrast, on my PEK – SIN Singapore Airlines First class flight earlier this year, it was pricier at 58,500 Krisflyer miles, but it was a proper First class experience from onboard (Cristal champagne and Caviar, Lalique PJs & amenities) to the lounge (The Private Room lounge even on arrival).
