Several college students in Abilene have been blindsided by sudden eviction notices from their off-campus apartment complex during the holiday season. Zion Webb, a junior at Abilene Christian University, and his mother, Angela Truitt, shared their ordeal with KTXS, revealing that the confusion began in August when their apartment complex, formerly known as The Arch, rebranded under new ownership as The Grand at Buffalo Run without informing all of their tenants. Webb explained that the leases signed with The Arch for the 2025-26 school year were deemed invalid by the new management. "They informed him that they had no knowledge that there was any student leases," said Webb. Due to IT issues, Webb has been unable to access the complex portal and was advised to pay rent via money order, which he has done monthly. However, Webb and other students received eviction notices on Monday, demanding payment within three days for previously undisclosed charges. "Just the idea of it being on Thanksgiving week, that just sucks already," Webb said, highlighting the stress of finals and the eviction notice. Truitt and Webb expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing that it's not about the money, as rent has been paid on time. "You know, just something that would show us a good faith effort," they said, hoping for accountability from the complex. The complex has yet to respond to requests for comment. Webb's mother stressed the impact on other students who may not have the means to pay, saying, "It's just not right."
