Great weather deserves a great hike; it doesn't have to be about distance, difficulty or ascent to be great, in this case it was the outstanding scenery in this area. Using the lifts to ensure an easy hike of mainly descent rather than ascent, and in the company of many other hikers with the same objective in mind; to see the Odle group of mountains with their unmistakable outline from the classic viewpoints. Beyond the high point the terrain changes as one enters the Puez Odle Nature park. The crowded area of the viewpoint is soon left behind as one heads to the Troier hut for a very pleasant break with superb "apfelstrudel mit vanillesauce". Then on to Pieralongia, the pair of huge angular rocks with a hut serving the usual delicacies. Downhill then to catch the chairlift back up to the top and the cable car to return to Ortisei. A memorable day !
