“Bodybuilding isn’t functional.” The reality? Muscle is functional. It’s protective, metabolic, and directly tied to strength, power output, and injury prevention. If you’re building lean mass, improving joint stability, and progressively overloading key movement patterns, you’re absolutely training function, just not in a way that caters to some CrossFit influencer’s definition of it. The idea that doing curls or machine work is somehow “non-functional” misses the point. Function is context specific. A firefighter needs different capabilities than a gymnast. A dad chasing his kid around needs something different than an Olympic lifter. But in every case, having more muscle and better movement control makes you more functional, not less. So if your “functional training” has you flailing around on a BOSU ball doing single leg rotations with a resistance band, maybe reconsider who’s really wasting time in the gym. #fitness #gym #workout #buildmuscle #bodybuilding
