DAY 5: SVALBARD EXPEDITION | Late Start & Whiteout Skiing Day 5 starts with a weather delay - a reminder that the Arctic sets the schedule, not us. We eventually head out skiing through a whiteout, which provides invaluable experience for the kind of conditions I'll face during my Greenland crossing in 2026. Today I also set up my single tent for the first time on this expedition, sharing some content from inside this more intimate space. There's something profound about being alone with your thoughts in a tent while the Arctic wind howls outside - it's where a lot of the mental preparation for Greenland really happens. Skiing through whiteout conditions isn't just challenging - it's essential training. Navigation becomes purely about trust in your compass and team, every step requires focus, and you learn to find rhythm even when visibility drops to almost nothing. These are exactly the skills that could make the difference on the Greenland ice sheet. The late start reminds us that flexibility is crucial in polar environments. Weather dictates everything, and learning to adapt your plans while maintaining momentum is part of what separates successful expeditions from failed ones. From inside the single tent, I share some thoughts on what these solo moments mean for the journey ahead.
