Padma Devi, a widow living alone in the New Plot area of Jammu, has had her electricity connection disconnected over non-payment of a Rs 1.70 lakh power bill. Padma says she occupies only one room and uses minimal electricity — mainly a fan and a bulb — and is unable to understand how such a hefty bill was generated. She added that she pays around Rs 2,000 per month and cannot afford to clear such a large amount.
