The Star Wars Shanty Project: Shanties and other songs from the Star Wars Universe. PATREON: / rowanthebard FACEBOOK: / rowanthebard #7 - Admiral Raddus 'No collection of the galaxy's shanties would be complete without at least some mention of the Mon Calamari. Some historians argue that they were pioneers of the musical form, with Mon Cal shanties dating back to the seafaring vessels of the pre-hyperspace era. It was not uncommon for the Mon Calamari to sing shanties honoring their fallen warriors (whom they held in great reverence). Often the lyrics would involve consigning the hero's soul back to the depths of the ocean, which they held as a spirit's source and final resting place. These shanties took on greater import once the Mon Calamari developed hyperspace travel, as some believed the songs would summon a fallen soul back to Mon Cala, lest their spirit wander forever through the stars. This particular shanty honors Admiral Raddus, one of the first heroes of the Rebellion, who perished along with his flagship, Profundity, at the Battle of Scarif. LYRICS Well Admiral Raddus gained the day. Send him down, lower him down. Through Scarif's shield he carved his way. Down into the sea. Chorus: Send down the Admiral, To the rest he's sorely earned. From the boundless deep came a warrior's soul And there it must return. His battle was not fought in vain, That's twice he's proven Tarkin's bane. Recall his spirit from the sky, In beds of coral let him lie. In victory's channels let him swim, No Krakana's maw awaits, for him. Let his admittance no man bar, To the good right hand of King Lee-Char. For it's many the honored company, That await him in profundity.
