CHP webinar: Championing a critical paradigm shift within the African Health Research Ecosystem

“Championing a critical paradigm shift within the African Health Research Ecosystem” CHP webinar with Africa CDC The webinar explores changing dynamics between the global North and South and building resilient systems which harness local capacity. The African continent, home to about 20% of global population faces a unique and complex health landscape characterized by the highest burden of diseases exacerbated by economic, social, and political factors. Albeit this, the current paradigm of health research is dominated by partners’ interest, most of which may not necessarily address continental specific health challenges. To attain goal 3 of aspiration 1 of Agenda 2063 of the African Union, there is an urgent need for a paradigm shift in health research across the continent. This shift calls for moving away from externally driven health research agendas toward patient-centred, local priority-driven, impact-focused African-led, sustainable and locally relevant health research through empowerment of Member States to define their own health research priorities using locally available data and investing in context-specific solutions.
