Akira Miyoshi (1933 - 2013) - Concerto for Orchestra (1964) I. Presto molto vivo [0:00] II. Lento [1:47] III. Prestissimo [6:04] NHK Symphony Orchestra, Hiroyuki Iwaki (1972) Akira Miyoshi's Concerto for Orchestra is a work in three movements typically lasting around 9 minutes. Though the piece seems to owe much to "Vorgefühle" from Schoenberg's Fünf Orchesterstücke, Op. 16, it displays Miyoshi's unique voice and "individual technique of motif transformation, which at times evokes the incremental rhythms of Japanese traditional music." The work was awarded the Otaka prize. About the piece, Miyoshi writes: "The lead in the pursuit of sound had hitherto been obtained through its orderly inner qualities, but this work, for the first time, attempts to seek a contact point between the inner qualities of sound and sound as an exterior element." Unfortunately, I cannot find any information about revisions to the piece.
