3D printing used to be for those willing to put in time to tinker and improve. In this video, I cover the first Reprap Darwin 3d printers, the early Makerbots and the poorly managed launch and support of the Solidoodle 2. Fortunately, the community combined to produce mod after mod until this affordable printer was punching well above its weight. Eventually Solidoodle went bust and left a bunch of people out of pocket and without a printer. A spooky premonition to all of the failed Kickstarter campaigns of recent years. If someone releases a mod for your brand of printer, don't knit pick flaws. Instead show your appreciation for the hours they have put in creating something aimed at helping others, usually for free! Ultimately I'm pleased that so many more people are now buying and using 3D printers.
