Exile – is a music composed from the emotions of estrangement, which always lead me to feel that we belong more to water than to land. To me, exile is traveling anywhere on this earth. Homeland is something deeper than the geography of birth or physical location. Home is a feeling of belonging—regardless of place. I always feel like a stranger, like I’m in exile. I constantly long for a means of transportation to take me to my true home. And I always find that in floating on the strings—that is where the real journey begins. I share this means of travel with you through playing the Hijazkar-Kurd maqam, one of the sweetest modes in earthly music.
