We invited Gerd Aulinger, co-author (with Mike Rother) of Toyota Kata Culture (aka “The Orange Book), to talk to us about his experiences and approach for trying to shift the default conversations within an organization. In this presentation, Gerd discusses what limits an organization’s capacity for problem solving (and how to expand that limit by orders of magnitude; the need to shift the management conversation toward rapidly dealing with obstacles as they execute policy deployment; and how he works to shift the way the organization manages problems and challenges by getting the leadership team started quickly into a routine of practice that he calls coaching cascades. (And with “cascades” in the name, how could we resist?) He will be presenting and running a couple of workshops at KataCon 11 in Indiana in April 2025.
