We drove five obscure 1990s Japanese cars 1,500 miles round-trip, over 5 days, just to hang out with other owners who've become really good friends. We meet in Tennessee, work on cars (some), BS (a lot), eat BBQ, drink beer ... and every year, we drive The Snake aka TN Route 421. You've heard of Tail of the Dragon? The Snake is Tail's big brother: 489 curves in 33 miles (some say 37 miles, but who's counting?). What kind of old Japanese cars? Well, you know Isuzu for its white box trucks, right? Did you even know it made cars, though only until 1993? Anyone with an Isuzu Impulse or Stylus, or its Geo Storm sibling, has to stick together just to keep 'em running. So this year we brought 5 cars from the Northeast (New Hampshire, Mass, upstate NY, Long Island + Pennsylvania). We joined 5 others from all over ... and long-distance honors went to our pal Billy, who drove 1,600 freakin' miles .... EACH WAY ... from Colorado. For the second year in a row. We had awards + even door prizes. We took photos + swapped stories + generally ... well, hung out. For us Northeasterners, it was a pair of 7-hour days to get there, 48 hours of enjoyment, then two 7-hour days back. And, damn, was it worth it every second. We'll show you almost a dozen 1990s Isuzu Impulses, Geo Storms, Isuzu Styluses, even the rare JDM Isuzu Gemini + Gemini Irmscher. Altogether, we ran 10 cars down The Snake this year. No one broke (unlike last year), we did our traditional doya gao pose to send our Japanese counterparts ... and we're already looking forward to next year. #roadtrip #japanesecars #oldjapanesecars #1990s #isuzu #isuzuimpulse #isuzugemini #isuzustylus #irmscher #geostorm #jdm #geminizz #isuzone #tmgps #dohc #4bangersthatmatter #datwagonbacktho #lotuswgn #joeisuzu #doyagao #nfsttp #thesnake #snaketrail #route421 #tailofthedragon #temptingfate #shitbox #shitboxroadtrip
