Why Does Our YouTube Recommendations Suck Now? Channels I Recommended In Video ---@mikeokay ---@AlluringArctic ---@AbroadinJapan I'll be honest, at first I thought this was a problem for just me. I watch YouTube everyday and have noticed a considerable lack of quality in YouTube's recommendations over the last 6 months. I didn't think much of it, maybe the algorithm got a bit skewed when I fell asleep a few times and it was left auto playing but after watching Charlie's video on it, or penguinz0 I realized it's not just a problem for me. It's YouTube's problem and it's getting out of hand. In a world where Spotify and TikTok can read you so well why is YouTube lacking so bad? I remember the days when I was a teenager the recommendations we're amazing. Literally drawing you to the platform to see people and creators do their work where you couldn't see stuff like it anywhere else. Nowadays its all dumb AI generative text or dubs full of the most Ludacris garbage I've ever seen or heard of. I'll be spoon-fed the same dumb videos over and over, refresh the page a couple times and it's still the same terrible videos being dished out to you, forced down your throat as if to say, no no no you'll watch this video. I've actually searched a few times now, stuff along the lines of, show me something actually good, or show me something actually interesting, why does YouTube recommendations suck now. All of course lead to old videos telling you to watch new things but even when you do, that's all YouTube will show you, watch one video about the lore behind X cartoon or X show and bam, you'll get a thousand videos spoon-fed to you all saying the exact same thing. Like no, that's not what I want. I just liked seeing something different. Like I said this morning I met my breaking point when I realized this isn't just a me problem. So I'm making this video to vent, but also maybe help you out of your in the same situation. I'll share some creators I really like, that are doing great work, from a variety of content that you may find interesting. Comment creators and videos you guys like to watch I am looking for new good stuff! Now lets get into it. The first creator I want to spotlight is Mike Okay, a travel vlogger who isn't afraid of taking risks, makes amazing content in a very simple format. This guy is like the anti Mr. Beast. No crazy editing, no dumb storied manipulation. Just out there living in the real world, showing it off for what it is. I cant begin to describe how refreshing it is to see that type of content not only survive, but thrive. In this same genre I'd also like to highlight Alluring Arctic Sailing. This guy has given me a sense of freedom through his videos. Showing off a life I never even considered before, and the stunning beauty of nature that comes with it. A sailing channel where he knows what life is about, and is out there living his best everyday. Truly an admirable channel. This next one I know you've heard of before but I'm mentioning it here to highlight one of the key issues with the algorithm these days. Abroad In Japan. A huge channel, very popular gaining millions of views over the years he's been doing it. The reason I'm mentioning it is because he put out a volcano documentary almost 2 weeks ago. A fascinating video, and compared to his other works it got half as many views, or less. This guys great, when I first applied for my working holiday to Japan I mentioned being a long time fan of this channel in my letter. No doubt I'm not the only one. With millions of views he's inspired many. So why does some of his greatest works go unfavored by the algorithm? If your getting into creating on YouTube there is a saying that if you make a good video, it will get views. Remember when things used to go viral on YouTube? A dumb video someone made gained millions of views overnight and they become a sensation? Where's that. I feel like I haven't seen something like this in a year or more. I no longer feel like if you make a good video, it will get views, I'm not talking about my own videos here I'm new to this, I'm sure there is ways I could improve but this seems more like a platform wide problem. So dear YouTube, bring back good videos. Stop feeding me the same dumb video I've been recommended 5 times and literally ticked the I'm not interested button twice. Just because you recommend me something that much and I finally watch it, maybe on auto-play or whatever, it doesn't mean its good, it doesn't mean your doing a good job. You've got some issues to fix. Bring back 2015 when most of the biggest channels were on top of their game, when PewDiePie was a legend, matpat ran game theory, when politics wasn't so mainstream. Some people used to come to YouTube to unwind you know. Thanks for watching everyone! If your here I'm sorry, we probably have the same problem but hopefully we can make it better together!
