Sometimes spending money on new gear is an illusion, a fugazi, and a vanity project. But when you have a specific purpose in mind, grabbing a new lens, camera, gimbal, drone, motion control rig, light etc. etc. can level up your work. We did two similar shoots a couple of months apart, and taking our learnings from the first we invested in three things that helped us raise the bar on the second project. Firstly, a motion control pan head/turntable enabled us to get longer smoother rotations, and focus more on operating our camera and lighting. Secondly, small but powerful battery-powered RGB LED lights gave us the chance to get creative in a small space. And third, a real macro lens was a big upgrade from plastic extension tubes in terms of sharpness and clarity.
