Jan 9th is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. As a Chief of Police, I have a first row seat to watch the incredible work our police officers do on a daily basis in our community. I was recently reviewing some messages about work done by our police officers which included: 1. An employee donating a bed, sofa, chairs, TV, and a number of other items to a person who was previously homeless and had recently moved into an apartment. 2. Extensive investigation that led to the apprehension of a dangerous domestic violence suspect. 3. Outstanding teamwork by five officers that led to pulling a person to safety prior to jumping into the river. 4. A detective who worked through the night to assure proper information was gathered for a search warrant application that led to the arrest of individuals connected to a large scam ring. 5. Personal and compassionate delivery of information regarding a homicide case by our Detective team. 6. Incredible work done by an officer working with homeless individuals in our community. 7. Officers working with a local family to assure they had housing prior to Christmas. Then, they went above and beyond and made sure there was a Christmas tree, decorations, and gifts at Christmas for that family. These are just some of the examples I am aware of in the last two months. In an environment in which it can be very difficult to be a police officer, I watch as our team navigates great difficulties with professionalism, compassion and grace. They serve our community with pride. I am incredibly blessed to be here working with them. Today, and every day, I am grateful for their service to our community. I hope you enjoy this video.
