Can Concrete Be Poured On Grass?

Concrete should never be poured directly on top of grass. Grass is an organic material that will deteriorate and rot away over time changing the size, shape and chemical consistency of the surface that the concrete was initially poured on. These changes can lead to all sorts of problems because the substrate (the surface concrete was poured on) is no longer supporting the concrete as it should. Ideally, all of the grass should be removed from the project area and a compactible substrate is laid (such as gravel) to make a better foundation for the concrete being placed.
