Inspiration: Haiti's successful revolution against France, Britain, and Spain demonstrated that it was possible for enslaved people to defeat a colonial power and create their own nation. This success served as a powerful symbol of hope for other enslaved people and independence movements across the Americas. Military and Financial Aid: Latin American leaders, most notably Simón Bolívar, sought help from Haiti. In 1815, Bolívar went to Haiti, and its president, Alexandre Pétion, provided him with soldiers, weapons, and supplies. Conditional Support: Haiti's support came with a specific condition: Bolívar had to agree to emancipate enslaved people in the territories he liberated. Shaping the Debate: Haiti's revolution forced the question of emancipation onto the agenda for all Latin American independence movements, influencing the debate and outcomes of those struggles.
