Pelvic Floor Massage Therapy - Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques

In this video, Erik Dalton demonstrates a Myoskeletal Alignment Technique for pelvic floor hypertonicity and protective guarding. This massage therapy technique will help your clients tone the pelvic floor area by addressing the adductor muscles. First ask permission from your client to massage them in the area because you will be rocking back and forth along the entire pubic ramus. The pelvic floor is the bottom of the core muscle group. Transverse abdominis in front, multifidus in back, respiratory diaphragm on top and pelvic floor or pelvic diaphragm on bottom. To test whether there is pelvic floor dysfunction in your client, place your thumb right off the ischial tuberosity, put some pressure on it, ask the client to take in a deep breath. When they inhale and there is no push back against your thumb, there is pelvic floor dysfunction. Remember it can be unilateral - the muscles may be activate on one side and not the other. Contact the lavator ani fascia and activate that part of the core - this is very important work. It can feel very tender for the client, so make sure the communication is open.
