John Deere is rolling out several updates to its harvest lineup for 2026, including new features for combines, grain carts, and flex drapers. At Ag in Motion, RealAgriculture caught up with Bergen Nelson, go-to-market lead for harvesting at John Deere, to learn more about what’s coming. For combines, Nelson highlights advances in predictive ground speed automation. The system, first introduced in 2025, uses cameras mounted on the front of the cab to automatically adjust ground speed. “For 2026 we’re bringing in new features…new crop compatibility with lentils and peas…and weed detection,” says Nelson. The weed detection capability not only helps prevent slugging but also produces a weed pressure map within the John Deere Operations Center. Grain cart operators will also see improvements. Grain harvest weight sharing integrates display systems with cart scale heads, improving logistics and efficiency. Combine auto unload, another new option, uses a camera on the unloading auger to automatically position the machine and evenly fill the cart. Flex drapers aren’t left out either. A new three-piece reel design on HDF and HDR heads will maintain close cutter bar contact, even in lower-podding crops.
