Fifty years ago three hundred fifty American soldiers encountered over eleven hundred North Vietnamese regulars and by the next day 155 Americans lay dead, but the unit had held its ground. It was the largest single loss of life by the Americans in a battle in the entire Vietnam War. Join us as we welcome former Greenvillian "Bud" Alley (son of legendary Furman coach Lyles Alley), who was in this and other battles in Vietnam, where he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart among other decorations. He brought copies of his recently published book about the battle, The Ghosts of the Green Grass, which were and still are available for purchase. Bud is a proud veteran of 2/7 First Air Cavalry, Vietnam.
