Dice Rollers and Game Helpers in Excel

In this video I describe various Excel-based dice rollers as well as several "helpers", which can be used to automate chart lookups for baseball sims. I briefly describe how the dice roller(s) and the helpers were programmed in Excel. If you have any questions, let me know. The key Excel formula for a d6 dice roller is: =RANDBETWEEN(1,6) This formula randomly returns a number between 1 and 6. (We'll avoid the discussion about whether computer-generated random numbers are truly random... they are not, in the technical sense.) VLOOKUP commands are used for the "helper" tables. The results in the helper tables have been automatically color-coded using the Conditional Formatting feature of Excel. For example, if a Strikeout result is indicated, the cell will be shaded light blue.
