Let's talk all about Intellectual Disability (or also known as ID) is a disability involves problems with general mental abilities that affect functioning in two areas: 1) intellectual functioning (such as learning, problem solving, judgement), and 2) adaptive functioning (activities of daily life such as communication and independent living). We're talking about what to do if you have a child or children with common disabilities like ADHD or Autism or Cerebral Palsy or OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) or any of the items listed below. She is an expert in quality and process improvement for comprehensive autism diagnostic and longitudinal services. Dr. Sohl is the site principal investigator for the Autism Intervention Research for Physical Health/Autism Treatment Network (AIRP/ATN) and serves in national leadership roles with each program. She is also founder of ECHO Autism, an innovative framework to increase community capacity to care for children with autism and other developmental/behavioral concerns. ECHO Autism is considered a national model for expanding autism diagnosis and treatment to underserved and rural populations. Her team has established partnerships with health care entities in more than 15 states and five countries. Dr. Sohl’s research focuses on systems change to improve health care and services for individuals with autism and also focuses on understanding underlying medical conditions in individuals with autism. Alok Patel is a pediatric hospitalist, medical journalist, on-camera expert, producer, and devotee of creative, engaging science communication tactics. He currently serves as the Faculty Director of Communications for the Department of Pediatrics. Through this role, he helps coordinate creative media strategies for awareness, education, advocacy, recruitment and more. Cedric “Jamie” Rutland, M.D., is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care. He completed medical school and an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa and then moved to Kansas where he completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowships at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Among other things, Dr. Rutland is an expert in asthma, COPD, ILD, EBUS, Navigational Bronchoscopy, and vaping. He serves Orange County and Riverside, CA working for West Coast Lung.
