Quartet New Generation at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts

On May 14, 2011, the evening program of the Museum Night at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts featured a unique classical music concert by a famous German quartet - Quartet New Generation. The concert was organized in collaboration of Goethe Institute and German Embassy in Armenia. The admission to the concert was free with prior reservations. The Quartet plays exclusively recorders (flute), performing on upwards of 30 different recorders of varying sizes and shapes. Taking advantage of the large recorder family and its flexibility, Quartet New Generation is constantly searching for new possibilities of sound and expression. The instruments played by the Quartet include a large number of accurate copies of authentic historical instruments plus modern recorders. During the concert, the Quartet performed famous pieces by J. S. Bach, G. F. Handel, as well as contemporary compositions written for the Quartet, transporting the listener into new sonic worlds, confirming the recorder's viability as a modern classical instrument.
