In this episode, I'm showcasing the NME DVD player (model DVD-404) from 2007, which supports the VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) format. This format was a special modification of DVDs designed to support up to 10 individual 5GB layers, theoretically allowing for a capacity of up to 50GB, read by a red laser. However, in practice, only dual-layer and quad-layer discs were ever produced. The format had a short lifespan, with plans to release approximately 100 titles (according to Wikipedia). However, the actual number of released titles is uncertain, as these discs are now difficult to find. The video encoding format was similar to those used in Blu-ray and HD-DVD, namely VC-1 and MPEG-2.
