Slemenova špica is one of the most popular hikes in Triglav National Park and an ideal day trip from Kranjska Gora. You can access the trail from Vršič Pass, one of Slovenia’s most scenic mountain roads with breathtaking views of the Julian Alps. The Slemenova špica hike is especially beautiful in October when the golden larches turn bright shades of yellow and orange 📍 Slemenova špica (Julian Alps) • Starting point: Vršič Pass (46°26'05.2"N 13°44'37.3"E) • Nearest parking: Vršič Pass Parking (46°26'00.2"N 13°44'36.4"E) • Starting elevation: 1,611 m • Highest point: 1,911 m • Elevation gain: ±300 m • Time: ~1.5 h (one way) • Path type: rocky (wear hiking boots) • Mountain huts: none directly on the trail, but several along the Vršič road Autumn in the Julian Alps doesn’t get more magical than this. In this vlog, I hike to Slemenova špica to see the golden larches and the impressive peaks of Triglav National Park. From the valley, the trees shift from deep hues of red and brown to bright yellows as we reach the first larches. The trail starts with a steady climb before splitting in two directions. For Slemenova špica, you take the right-hand path that winds through colorful larch forests. This section is mostly level, with only gentle ups and downs. The last part is a short but steeper climb, which brings you to the open meadow of Slemenova špica. If you’re staying in Kranjska Gora, this hike is a great option. It is one of the most rewarding short trails in the Julian Alps. The summit offers stunning views of Mount Jalovec and the surrounding peaks. Please make sure you’re well prepared when venturing into the mountains, even for shorter hikes. Always check the weather forecast, wear appropriate shoes and clothing, and bring enough water and snacks. Stay on marked trails and follow the red-and-white signs to avoid getting lost.
